Autumn Leaves

Rays of Wisdom - Words And Prayers Of Comfort And Healing For The Seasons Of The Year

The falling leaves
Drift by my window.
The falling leaves of red and gold.

I see your lips,
The summer kisses,
The sunburned hands I used to hold.

Since you went away,
The days grow long
And soon I’ll hear old winter song,
But  I miss you most of all, my darling,
When autumn leaves start to fall.

Since you went away,
The days grow long,
And soon I’ll hear old winter song.
But I miss you most of all, my darling,
When autumn leaves start to fall.

I miss you most of all, my darling,
When autumn leaves start to fall.

A much-recorded song that originally appeared in 1945 as the French song ‘Les feuilles mortes’, literally ‘The Dead Leaves’, with music by the Hungarian-French composer Joseph Kosma and lyrics by the poet Jacques Prévert. Its Hungarian title is ‘Hulló levelek’ or ‘Falling Leaves’. In 1946 Yves Montand with Irène Joachim introduced it as ‘Les feuilles mortes’ in the film ‘Les Portes de la nuit’.
